TOP FAQ

What are the key things we need to adhere to?

For a successful and safe tour your group and/or you must:

  • arrive at the designated pickup point at least 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time. Late arrivals may result in forfeiture of the booking without a refund.  We depart from near the Bus Station - no where else.
  • adhere to safety briefing and instructions provided by the tour guide or driver.
  • be responsible for your own safety, your group members safety as well as their personal belongings which must be limited to small personal items/bags only.
  • large luggage items, push chairs and large medical equipment are not conveyed and will not be permitted on the bus.
What is my ticket validity?

Tickets are only valid for the date and time booked unless amended, via writing, by our office.  All tickets must be booked in advance and are non-refundable 24 hours before the ticketed date and time.  Please note that cruise ship tour guests are subject to the same terms and conditions and travel insurance should be purchased that covers missed port calls.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you have to cancel you must do so via the online system you used to book, with any refund due pursuant to our Terms and Conditions.

If we have to cancel for any reason e.g. extreme weather or failure of our vehicle or any tour operator or road closures then we will provide a full refund (excluding any third party transaction fees either on your part or ours).

There are other instances that are considered a cancellation by you and they are outlined in our Terms and Conditions.

All bookings, except Private Tour bookings, are refundable up to 24 hours prior to departure time, less any transaction fees from any party whether on your part our ours.

Private Tour guests (tours arranged separate to our daily scheduled tours):

Private Tours are refundable up until 3 days prior to the tour date.

If you have booked a Private Tour and you were due to arrive by Cruise Ship into Stornoway Deep Water Port Terminal, or berthed at an outer berth, where their ship did not dock or berth, a 75% refund of your tour booking less the full deposit and any third party transaction fees will be offered. Evidence must be provided that your ship failed to berth or dock when a refund application is made, this can be made via email to accounts@hebrideanservices.com.

Where are the Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policies?

You can find them right here:

Do you cater for disabilities?

Sadly neither the vehicle, nor the locations visited, are currently suitable for wheelchair users and we hope one day to have enough reserves to upgrade our vehicle to address this.

All other disabilities are welcome and please let us know if there are any special requirements and we will do our best to assist.  Note we cannot accommodate large medical devices or any gas tanks.

What medical conditions may prevent my participation?

Our tours are not wildly energetic!  Mostly you need to be able to:

  • cope with uneven ground so please consider this if you are unstable on your feet
  • pregnant women should consider their own personal circumstances,
  • unfortunately, at this point in time, our tour bus cannot accommodate wheelchairs, gas tanks or other medical equipment.
  • be happy that you are comfortable with any motion sickness resulting from your travel in a minibus,
  • we supply of hot and cold liquids, the supply of biscuits and chocolate products, some of which may contain nuts or other allergens.
Drugs and alcohol policy

We operate a zero tolerance approach to drug use and alcohol consumption.

You may not be intoxicated, even for medical reasons, on our tour.

You will be refused boarding if judged to be under the influence at the point of departure.

Your tour will be terminated if you are discovered using drugs or alcohol on our tour either on-board or outside of the vehicle and we will be required to report any breach of the law to the local police.

Can I smoke cigarettes, vape or use an e-cigarette?

No.  You may not smoke, vape or use e-cigarettes on board the vehicle or in close proximity to it.

If you wish to vape, use e-cigarettes or smoke outside of the tour vehicle, you must do so away from the other tour members, the driver and the tour operator. This may result in you being unable to participate or hear the tour for that time that you are smoking.

If you do not comply with these rules the tour will be terminated.

Must I use a seatbelt?

Yes.  The law requires you wear a seatbelt, and there are very few exceptions, none of which apply to your tour.

If you have a medical exemption from wearing a seatbelt you must carry the original, or a copy, of the authorisation so that, in the event of being stopped by the police, DVSA or Traffic Commissioner you are not endangering the Company or driver.

Both you, your driver and the tour operator could be subject to fine and penalty points if you are found violating this law.

We do not offer a pick-up or drop-off service.

Do I need travel insurance?

Experience tells us that you should DEFINITELY PURCHASE TRAVEL INSURANCE before your trip for our tourer service to cover all instances of failure of your trip and to cover you should anything happen whilst on your trip.

For our cruise ship guests you should purchase insurance that covers a failure to dock at Stornoway as the same cancellation policy applies to all our tour guests.

This can incude, but isn't limited to:

  • cancelled tours by you or us,
  • tours you were unable to attend due to weather, failed transport providers and/or other foreseeable and unforeseeable events,
  • medical cover,
  • financial loss,
  • the need to provide for extra over-night accommodation,
  • the need to provide for extra food provision for you and or entire booked party.

What happens if I am running late for the tour?

Given the nature of our tours we cannot wait for anyone at the start, past the departure time, nor past the departure time at any stop.

If you are not at the departure point 15 minutes prior to departure, or you fail to return to the vehicle whilst on tour, our cancellation policy will apply and no refunds will be provided and you will have to make your own way back if the tour has started.

Tell me about the bus...

Our vehicle is a comfortable Ford minibus.

There are no toilets on board and we do advise that the only opportunity for a comfort break will be at some of the sites we visit if they are operating.

Do you accept children?

We accept children 3 years old to 16 years old. There must be at least 1 adult (17+ yrs) with up to two children.

Our tour guide is PVG cleared and has completed Safeguarding certification for young and vulnerable groups.

Do you offer concession rates?

We offer Adult and Child rates.  Child rates cover 2 to 16 years old.  Adult rates cover 17 years and up.

0 - 1 years travel free but are expected to travel in a parent or guardians arms.

Do you cater for disabilities?

Neither the vehicle, nor the locations visited, are suitable for wheelchair users or those with large medical support equipment.  Our goal is to save enough income to, one day, upgrade our vehicle to address this.

All other disabilities are welcome and please let us know if there are any special requirements and we will do our best to assist.

Can I take my dog on tour?

We love dogs, however, on our standard tours we do not allow any animals other than guide dogs for the blind and we hope other guests will support this stance.

On our Private Bookings we do allow up to two dogs as this gives us plenty time to clean the minibus for future guests who may have allergies.
